Frequently Asked Questions

~ Camp Pilates is a Reformer Pilates studio in New Brighton, Christchurch. At Camp, we focus on strong foundations, controlled movement, and long-term strength. Classes are designed to feel supportive and intentional, with an emphasis on form and quality over speed and intensity. Camp is suitable for those new to Pilates, returning after time away, or looking for a more thoughtful approach to movement. Our goal is to help clients build strength and confidence in a way that supports their bodies over time.

What is Camp Pilates?

~ If you're feeling unsure, returning after time away, or working with injuries, FOUNDATIONS is the best place to start. These classes are slower and more stripped back, with extra focus on technique, control, and confidence. We offer classes suited for all abilities. If you feel comfortable starting Pilates, our BASIC classes are a good place to begin. They introduce key movements and concepts while still offering a supportive pace. As you build strength and familiarity, INTERMEDIATE classes are available for those looking for more challenge. There is no rush to move up, and many clients choose to stay with Basic or Founda

I've never done Pilates before, where should I start?

~ We use a simple 'non-contact' booking system through the Glofox app and our website. You can book and cancel classes, as well as purchase memberships or class packs, all in one place. To book your first class, download the Glofox app, search for Camp Pilates, and create an account. You will be prompted to complete our studio waiver before booking. Once registered, you can purchase a membership or class pack and book directly from the timetable. Classes can be booked up to three weeks in advance. Our booking system is also integrated into our website if you prefer to book online.

How do I book?

~ If you are first on the waitlist, you will be automatically booked into the class if a space becomes available. Please note that you may be added to the class up to 60 minutes before the start time. If you are unable to attend at short notice, we recommend removing yourself from the waitlist to avoid losing a credit. If you do not attend a booked class without cancelling, a $5 non-refundable no-show fee will apply. These policies help us manage class availability fairly and support our wider community. Thank you for understanding.

How does the waitlist work?

~ We recommend arriving five minutes before class if you are a regular, and 10-15 minutes early if it is your first visit to allow time for the instructor to introduce you to the reformer machine.

What time should I arrive?

~ There is plenty of nearby on-street parking available.

Is there parking?

~ We recommend comfortable yoga, activewear, or gym-appropriate clothing that allows you to move freely. Please bring grip socks if you have them. Grip socks are also available for purchase at the studio.

What do I wear?

~ Grip socks are required for safety and hygiene. We provide all other equipment, though you may like to bring a water bottle and a small towel.

Do I need to bring anything?

~ Classes are 50 minutes long. We recommend arriving five minutes before class if you are a regular, and 10-15 minutes early if it is your first visit to allow time for the instructor to introduce you to the reformer machine.

How long are classes?

~ For most regular clients, we recommend two to three reformer Pilates classes per week, though some keen beans do choose to come more often. If you are new to Pilates or still building strength, two classes per week with at least one rest day in between is a great place to start. This allows your body enough time to recover while still building strength consistently. As you become more familiar with the movements and feel stronger, you can gradually increase your frequency if it feels right.

How many classes should I attend per week?

~ We understand that plans can change. We have a 12-hour cancellation policy to allow time for other members to fill your spot. If you cancel before the 12-hour cut-off, your class credit will be returned and can be used to book another class. If you cancel within 12 hours of the class, the class credit will be forfeited. You can still cancel using our late cancel option so your spot can be offered to someone on the waitlist. If you are on the waitlist, please note that you may be added to a class up to 60 minutes before the start time. If you are unable to attend at short notice, we recommend removing yourself from the waitlist. If you do not attend a booked class without cancelling, a $5 non-refundable no-show fee will apply. These policies help us manage class availability fairly and support our wider community. Thank you for understanding.

What if my plans change and I need to cancel?

~ We like to kick things off on time. Alarm snoozers, we see you. Arriving late can be disruptive to other students, and our instructors have a responsibility to ensure everyone warms up properly and gets the most from their time with us. Studio doors will close once class has commenced, and late entry is at the instructor’s discretion.

What happens if I'm running late?

~ You’ll find one shower and change room available for pre or post-work workouts. Please bring your own towel and shower products.

Do you have showers/change rooms?

~ If you have an injury that significantly affects your normal movement, we recommend obtaining clearance from an allied health professional before attending class. This also applies if your injury is acute, such as red, hot, or swollen, or if you are recently post-operative. For longer-term or chronic pain conditions, exercise is often beneficial. The guidelines we follow support maintaining activity as close to normal as possible, where appropriate. Our trainers are experienced and trained to work with a wide range of injuries and pain conditions. Please let your trainer know before class so they can support you and offer appropriate modifications.

Can I attend with an injury?

~ Congratulations. If you have been cleared to exercise by your doctor, you are welcome to join our group classes. Our instructors are highly trained and follow current prenatal exercise guidelines. All classes can be adapted to support you throughout your pregnancy. We encourage you to listen to your body and only do what feels right on the day. Please let your instructor know before class so they can offer appropriate options. We hope to offer dedicated pre- and post-natal classes in the future. In the meantime, our instructors are happy to support you with modifications.

I'm pregnant, can I attend?

~ Absolutely. We offer one-on-one and two-on-one reformer Pilates sessions for those who prefer not to attend group classes. These sessions allow for more individualised support and can be tailored to your goals and needs. We also offer private group sessions. Please contact hello@camppilates.co.nz to enquire.

Do you offer private sessions?

~ To attend classes, you must be 16 years of age or older, or attend with a parent or guardian.

Do you have a minimum age limit?

~ While we love children, both human and four-legged, we kindly ask that they are not brought to class. This helps us keep the studio calm and focused for everyone. You may, however, be lucky enough to meet Rudi, our Pilates princess golden retriever, who is often at the studio and always eager for pats.
